My First Visit to Pokhara: A Tourist’s Unique Experience
Tatokhabar / When most people think of Nepal, they picture the busy streets and ancient temples of Kathmandu. But our beautiful country has so much more to offer. My first visit to Pokhara revealed a peaceful and exciting side of Nepal. This city, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, provides experiences that are a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. Here’s a detailed account of my journey, highlighting the moments that made my trip unforgettable.
Journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara
My adventure began with a bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara. We took a tourist bus that left early in the morning and arrived in Pokhara around 6:00 AM. The journey was long, but the views of green hills, terraced fields, and small villages were beautiful and calming.
Arrival and Rest
When we arrived in Pokhara, we checked into Dorje’s Resort and Spa. This peaceful place was perfect for resting after our long trip. We took a three-hour rest to recharge for the day ahead. The resort, surrounded by nature, had a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Thrilling Bungee Jump at Kushma
After resting, we rented a scooter and headed to Kushma via Sarangkot for a bungee jump. The ride through Sarangkot offered stunning views of the Annapurna range and the Pokhara valley. The bungee jump at Kushma was thrilling. Standing on the platform, looking down at the river below, and then jumping was both scary and exciting. It was an unforgettable experience.
Lunch at Hallan Chowk and Evening at Lakeside
After the bungee jump, we returned to Pokhara around 2 PM and went straight to Hallan Chowk for lunch. The local food was delicious and gave us energy for the rest of the day. In the evening, we explored Lakeside, the main tourist area of Pokhara. Lakeside was lively, with music, food, and lots of people. We enjoyed the busy market, cozy cafes, and the beautiful view of Phewa Lake.
Dinner and Rest at the Resort
After a full day of fun and exploration, we returned to Dorje’s Resort. We had a delicious dinner made from home-grown produce from the Sedi region of Pokhara. The fresh, local flavors were a perfect end to the day. Tired and happy, we went to bed, excited for the next day’s adventures.
Day Two: Paragliding Adventure
The next day, we woke up around 8 AM. After a good breakfast, we went paragliding. Pokhara is famous for its paragliding, offering some of the best views in the world. Flying above the valley, with the Annapurna range in the background and Phewa Lake below, was an amazing experience. The sense of freedom and the breathtaking views made it a highlight of our trip.
Exploring Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, and Begnas Taal
After paragliding, we had lunch and then visited more of Pokhara’s natural attractions. Our first stop was Davis Falls, a unique waterfall that flows into an underground tunnel. The sight and sound of the waterfall were mesmerizing. Next, we explored Gupteshwor Cave, a sacred cave with a Shiva lingam. Walking through the dimly lit cave was an exciting adventure.
Finally, we visited Begnas Taal, a quiet lake a bit further from the city. The calm waters and surrounding hills provided a peaceful retreat. We enjoyed a boat ride on the lake, soaking in the tranquility and natural beauty.
Return to Kathmandu
After another day of fun and exploration, we headed back to Kathmandu. The journey back gave us time to reflect on our wonderful experiences in Pokhara. From the thrilling bungee jump and paragliding to the serene lakes and vibrant Lakeside, Pokhara offered us the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
Final Thoughts
My first visit to Pokhara was an unforgettable journey filled with unique experiences. The city’s natural beauty, from the peaceful Phewa Lake to the majestic Himalayan views, creates a perfect setting for both adventure and relaxation. The lively culture, tasty local food, and friendly people added to the charm of Pokhara. Compared to the busy energy of Kathmandu, Pokhara offers a calm and exciting escape, making it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Nepal.
Pokhara’s mix of nature, adventure, and culture has something for everyone. Whether you love excitement, nature, or just want to relax, Pokhara will not disappoint. My journey to Pokhara was refreshing and thrilling, and I look forward to returning to discover more of its hidden treasures.
