Bagmati mayor misused his position to acquire wealth illegally
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Wednesday filed a corruption case at the Special Court against Mayor of Bagmati Municipality of Sarlahi district Bharat Kumar Thapa on the charge of acquiring wealth illegally.
The anti-graft agency has alleged that Thapa accumulated property worth Rs 53.3 million through misuse of his position from September 2017 to February 2023. The agency has sought recovery of the amount along with an equal fine.
An investigation conducted by the commission revealed that Thapa possesses property valued at Rs132 million. However, the source of only Rs78.6 million of this property could be verified, CIAA said.
According to the commission, his wife Reshmi Kumari Ghimire Thapa, brother Ram Kumar Thapa and sister-in-law Dwarika Raut have also been named defendants in the case as the illegal property was also transferred to their names.
