Japan Hands Over Community Center for Disaster Prevention

Kathmandu : In a significant ceremony held April 23 in Sindhupalchowk District, the Government of Japan officially handed over the reins of the Community Center for Disaster Prevention to the Indrawati Rural Municipality. Ambassador Kikuta graced the event with his presence, underscoring the importance of this endeavor.

The newly inaugurated community center stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Government of Japan and the Japanese NGO, Japan Asian Association & Asian Friendship Society (JAFS). Constructed under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects scheme, this initiative aims to bolster the disaster prevention capabilities of the rural municipality in Sindhupalchowk district through self-reliance and mutual aid.

Beyond the physical infrastructure, the project encompasses a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness. Alongside the construction of the community center, initiatives such as the establishment of disaster prevention committees, public broadcasting systems, warehouses, and landslide prevention measures are integral parts of the endeavor.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Kikuta voiced his optimism regarding the transformative potential of the newly inaugurated center. He expressed his hope that it would not only serve as a focal point for disaster prevention efforts but also catalyze regional revitalization. With its multifaceted approach, the community center is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing both the resilience and prosperity of the region.
